TitleStop Playing Small

There is a post you wrote and deleted. There is a friend you coached standing up in a driveway instead of putting on your calendar. There is a person you meant to write to in March and you still have not written to them.

If you charge, there is a number you say out loud and a bigger number that was in your mouth first.

If you have not charged anybody yet, there is a first time that keeps getting pushed. Next month. After the certification. Once you feel ready.

Some of that is skill you have not built yet. A lot of it is playing small, and playing small does not announce itself. You can do it for years and call it being careful.

Worth knowing which is which, because they take different work.

Three months, ten Mondays, and we go find yours.

How we find it

Bars keep a sheet for what got wasted. Wrong order, dropped bottle, a pour that came out cloudy, a drink somebody sent back. You write the line, and at the end of the month somebody works out where it all went.

Nobody keeps one of these for coaching.

Three months, ten Mondays, and we build yours. Most practices leak somewhere and the leak is rarely where you think it is. You patch it and watch what your income does after.

What we go after

Playing small is not one habit. It comes apart into three, and they show up in this order because each one needs the one before it.

Can you say it out loud. You have been calling it sort of coaching. You change the subject at parties. Somebody asks what you do and you answer with a job you left. A plumber says plumber. Nobody apologizes for the word plumber.

Can you stop coaching people who didn't ask. You give the real thing away in a driveway, and it works, and nothing comes of it. Then they call you a wonderful friend and mean it as a compliment.

Can you ask. A bartender describes the wine and pours you a taste and then stops talking. A coach apologizes for the list. One of those sells.

Underneath all three is the part nobody says out loud. You think you are scared of the price. You are scared that if you ask and they say no, the friendship changes and you lose them. The money is the fear you can stand to look at.

The books

The library comes with it. We work out of these across the three months, and we tell you which one and when as we go.

Bartender. Why life coaches don't get hired.
Naturalist. Why life coaches freeze at their own marketing.
Plumber. For coaches who hate the word coach.
Mapmaker. For coaches who don't know where clients come from.
Director. For coaches who audition for their own clients.

The craft shows up too. Some of it is in the books, some of it we teach live when the group needs it.

Who it is for

Coaches at any point in it, including nobody yet.

A coach with zero clients and a coach with twenty have different holes. Both have holes, and a lot of them are the same hole at different sizes. There is no prerequisite, no certification question, no test at the door, and nobody is going to make you say your numbers out loud in front of the group.

What happens

Ten live calls, Mondays. 12:00 to 1:30pm Eastern.

That is 9:00 to 10:30am Pacific, 11:00am to 12:30pm Central, and 5:00 to 6:30pm in the UK.

September 28
October 5, 12, 19
November 2, 9, 16
December 7, 14, 21

Ninety minutes each. Both of us on all ten. Two different brains, two different styles, and neither of us runs a script.

Every call is recorded and sent out, so a Monday you cannot make is not a Monday you lose.

Two private hours, one with each of us. A full hour with Nathaniel and a full hour with Irina, booked whenever you want them across the three months. Not a check-in. A real session.

A private group, just the people in this. On Facebook, closed, nobody in it who is not doing the program. Post the thing you are about to send and get eyes on it before you send it. Say the number you are thinking of charging and find out how it sounds out loud. Both of us are in there between the Mondays.

Most of what happens in a program like this happens on a Tuesday, when the call is over and you have to actually do it.

The group closes at the end of December with the rest of it. Three months, and then you are on your own with a practice that works, which is the point.

What it costs
